🏊 Practice Information

Welcome to Otters practice! This page includes practice schedules, Otter Pup information, dryland warm-up expectations, readiness expectations, gear reminders, and weather policies for the 2026 season.

Quick Note: Practice schedules may be adjusted due to weather, holidays, pool availability, or meet week needs. Please watch SwimTopia, email, and team communication channels for updates.

πŸƒβ™€οΈ Dryland Warm-Up Reminder

Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled practice time for dryland warm-up, stretching, and practice prep.

Example: If your swimmer’s practice is 6:00–6:30 PM, dryland begins at 5:45 PM.

This helps swimmers warm up, stretch, listen for instructions, and be ready to enter the water at their assigned practice start time.

πŸ“‹ Practice Readiness & Policies

These guidelines help ensure a safe, organized, and positive practice environment for all swimmers.

⏱️ Arrival & Gathering

  • Be Prepared: Please arrive 5–10 minutes early so your swimmer is ready to start on time.
  • Dryland Warm-Up: Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes before practice when dryland is scheduled or expected.
  • Meeting Spot: Swimmers should meet in the four-square area between the lifeguard station and the baby pool. Coaches will call each age group when it is time to begin.

⚠️ Conduct & Safety

  • Listening: Swimmers are expected to be respectful, attentive, and ready to listen to coaches on deck.
  • Horseplay: To ensure safety, inappropriate behavior will result in a β€œfirst strike,” requiring the swimmer to sit out of practice.
  • Escalation: Continued issues will be reported to the Team Liaison and the swimmer’s parents.

πŸ“… Attendance

  • Flexibility: Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible to build skills and confidence.

πŸ‘• Practice Attire & Gear

  • The Essentials: Swimmers should wear a swimsuit and bring goggles, a towel, and a water bottle.
  • Swim Caps: Optional but recommended for longer hair.
  • Suits: Girls should wear a one-piece suit. Boys may wear trunks or jammers.
  • Competition Note: Jammers are preferred for boys during meets because they reduce drag and support performance.

β˜” Weather Policy

  • Rain: Practice will continue during light rain but may pause during heavy downpours.
  • Thunder & Lightning: If thunder or lightning occurs, practice will stop immediately for that age group.
  • Cancellations: Decisions about later sessions will be made based on changing conditions. Please check email and the team Facebook page for updates. If you have not received a cancellation notice, practice is still on.
Reminder: Staying informed through SwimTopia, email, and team communication channels is the best way to keep up with schedule changes and important updates.
